Suggested seedings, 2013

Every year, I try to figure out how teams should be seeded in the NJSIAA state tournaments. I’ve been in good contact with the New Jersey hockey community this year, but since I still haven’t seen any games in person, I do my best to base the seedings on conclusions drawn logically from team results. The real seeding committee is meeting Tuesday afternoon, and we should hear about the brackets that night.

A reminder: These are how I think the teams should be seeded, not how I think they will actually be placed. I am including several potential at-large teams, although I do not have any information about which teams will be selected. When possible, I tried to avoid likely intra-league matchups, but it has to happen occasionally. Read on for the full lists.

PRIVATE
1. Delbarton – Not a difficult one
2. CBA – 2-2 vs. DBP and GC but beat both teams in most recent meetings
3. Don Bosco Prep – 2-2 vs. CBA and GC but beat GC 6-2 in most recent meeting
4. Gloucester Catholic – Lost most recent games vs. CBA and DBP but beat SA twice
5. St. Augustine Prep – Beat ND 4-3
6. Notre Dame – Lost to GC, SA but beat SJMet, PJ, SHP
7. St. Joseph Metuchen – Beat DBP, BC (1-0-1) and tied MK, Rmsy, but lost to ND
8. Paramus Catholic – Lost to DBP 5-1, forcing them below SJMet; 1-goal wins vs. SJMont, Rmsy
9. St. John Vianney – Ranks ahead of Mennen Division based on win over Kin
10. Morristown-Beard – Crushed BC and MKA late in year and tied PDS; finished below Kin in Mennen
11. Montclair Kimberley – Crushed by MB, beat SJMont, PPB, tied MK
12. St. Joseph Montvale – Beat BC 5-1 but lost to PC, MKA, PJ, Rmsy
13. Bergen Catholic – Split season series vs. PJ but won most recent game and finished higher
14. Pope John – Finished below BC, negating non-league wins vs. Kin, SJMont
15. Seton Hall Prep – tied Randolph
16. St. Peter’s Prep – beat Morristown-Beard, lost to Randolph
17. St. Rose – tied Ridge (in tourney)
18. Pingry – lost to Randolph, only 1 non-league win (Nut)
19. Bishop Eustace – competitive in losses to ND, SA
20. Monsignor Donovan – 0 games vs. private schools, split season series with Wall, lost to RD
