February Top 20 poll
February 5, 2007 on 12:02 am | In analysis | 9 CommentsAlright, alright, everybody loves a Top 20 ranking. I had to do a Top 10 this week for my Hockey Night in Boston write-up, so here’s a full Top 20. Not easy to come up with, necessarily, but fun to discuss. Here we go …
1. Delbarton (14-1-2, 11-1-1 Gordon) – Can’t wait to see how the Lawrenceville game goes.
2. St. Peter’s Prep (14-3-3, 8-2-3 Gordon) – Only team to beat Delbarton.
3. CBA (8-3-6, 5-3-5 Gordon) – Terrific defense but disappointing scoring.
4. Seton Hall Prep (7-4-4, 6-4-4 Gordon) – Struggling at the moment but still fourth.
5. Ridge (16-0-3, 10-0-2 Central Red) – Moved up after tie with CBA.
6. Notre Dame (18-0, 11-0 CVC Colonial) – SPP win cannot overcome league schedule.
7. St. Augustine Prep (14-0, 12-0 Southern Red) – It’s a toss-up between these unbeatens.
8. Bergen Catholic (5-8-2, 4-6-2 Gordon) – These guys are on the move.
9. Pope John (8-5-4, 4-5-3 Gordon) – Not deep enough to beat the other Gordons.
10. Pingry (16-1-1, 10-0-1 MCSSIHL Halvorsen) – One of the top stories of the year.
11. Randolph (13-4-1, 10-3 MCSSIHL Mennen) – Played well against a top public schedule.
12. Bridgewater-Raritan (11-4-4, 6-2-2 Central Red) – Deep and experienced squad
13. Morris Knolls (13-3-5, 7-3-3 MCSSIHL Mennen) – Another power coming on strong.
14. Don Bosco Prep (3-9-2, 2-9-1 Gordon) – Tied Morris Knolls and Delbarton.
15. Northern Highlands (13-1-3, 10-1-3 NBIAL) – Fewest losses in NBIAL.
16. Fair Lawn (12-4-2, 11-2-2 NBIAL) – Sunday loss cost them a few spots.
17. Chatham (11-6-1, 7-4-1 MCSSIHL Mennen) – Tougher opposition means tougher going.
18. Ramapo (12-3-2, 11-2-2 NBIAL) – Tough to judge, given the circumstances.
19. Bishop Eustace (9-5-2, 7-2-2 Southern Red) – Solid but with few marketable wins.
20. Monsignor Donovan (12-3-1, 6-3-1 Southern Red) – Ditto.

why are all the kids on shp quitting? First it was goalie socci, then tom pangia, then ant d’allessandro(who is far better than duarte or croonquist), and then dywer who is a much better defenseman then kawam. Herms has to stop putting out weak kids just to develop them and work on winning this year for he loses everyone. By the way, i am not a palyer parent or student at shp, just rea;ize all of the garbage that goes on in high school hockey

Jon,
Thanks again for your time and energy. You really do a very good job.
Having played 10 of the top 20 teams I do have a couple of observations.
1. St Augustine is the best team we faced all year.
2. Bishop Eustace deserves a top 15 spot.
Thnks again,
Ken Carlson RBC

As for the rankings, they will play themselves out. If St Augustine wins it’s next 3 games against PDS, ND, and Pingry they should get the respect of the rankings. Only thing wrong with rankings are that there are some really good teams that are not in the Gordon conference that get no respect. There is no way a team 3-9=2 should be rated higher than Teams such as Bishop Eustace. I know they play tough competition in the Gordan but they still only have 3 wins.

fair lawn is getting the number 16 spot we beat them 6-2 or 6-3 if anything you were better off having morris knolls or glen rock but not fair lawn they were terrible they were the sloppiest team we played all year thats all i got to say

for get the morris knolls didnt c that they were already in there plus another team that is having an amazing year is jefferson they probably have the top scoring line in the state and they tied hillsborough when they should have won that game they got a lucky break away at the end of the game because the defensemen slipped out and they probably would have beaten bridgewater raritain so u should give them a shot of being in the top 20 think about it

I know this list was done on 2/5, but Hillsborough has been in every game and lost all but one by 1 goal. Lost to Ridge w/12 sec. left (PP goal),
Lost to pingry in OT (PP Goal), Montgomery by 2 but empty net with .17sec left. They deserve a ranking
